Welcome!!!
My name is Max Collette. I am a 33 year old web developer student from Canada. I decided it could be fun to make a video game. One thing lead to another, and now I have a pretty good start to an actual potential game release, and a registered small bussiness. I have always enjoyed not just playing video games, but seeing what other people are playing, as well as what games are being released. I have always had an interest in the video game industry, and now maybe I can become a part of it.
This is my game company. The name came from the fact that I really like armadillos, because they are cute animals. I also really like pixel art. The video game industry has continually shown us that pixel art games can compete, and really thrive in today's video game landscape. Some of my favorite games from the last decade are indie games with a pixel art style. If this is your thing, great. If it's not your thing, do not worry. I don't plan on always making games with a 2D pixel art style.
I'm a fan of most genres of video games, so I think as long as I can insert some original ideas and unique visuals into a genre, I can see myself making it. I have a unique aestethic that I can bring to the table. A sort of quirkyness that I can express through the overall tone of a game, as well as it's visuals. I really enjoy a good mix of surreal (almost dream like) imagry, mixed with absurdist elements. Weird in a good way.
Right now I am still in school, so I work on my games when I have the time. My game company is less than a year old at this point in time, so all of this is still very much in it's infancy. I currently have 3 different games that I am working on, although one of them I have spent the majority of my time developing, because of it's size and scale. All of my games are still years away from being released, so right now I am basically just developing them, and working on getting my company, and it's work out there. Maybe sometime next year, I can start shopping around for a game publisher.
This is the game that I have spent most of my free time on. It's going to be a top down RPG with a pixel art aestethic. It's something that I am very passionate about, putting quite a few hours into it so far. I have uploaded quite a few videos of me working on it to my tiktok account. I don't expect it to come out any time soon, but how much of the game have I completed so far? Well, if this game was a brand new house being built, then I would say I have successfully poured the concrete foundation, and I'm still framing it.
In this game, you are a lobster. You have to dance (DDR style) in order to fight enemies, and take over their land. This game is still in very early development. I have some basic "programmer art" assets, along with some java code. I basically set up some very crude DDR style scrolling arrows that run infinitely, and randomize between 4 arrow directions. Nevertheless, I have lots of good ideas for this one, and a strong overall vision for what it could be. It's not going to be as big in scale as the first game I'm working on, but I'ts still in early development, so it's going to be a while before it comes out.
My idea was to take the core game mechanics of two different arcade classics, and blend them together with a very quirky art style. This one is meant to be more of a shorter arcade experience. I have some art assets for the game that I am really happy with, and a few different game levels that the player can progress through. I think this will probably be the first game that I end up releasing, but we will see!
